Safety at Sunseri Construction
At Sunseri Construction, safety is not reactive or checklist-driven. It is a proactive, collaborative, and continuously improving system that protects people, projects, and partnerships.
Over the past two years, we have made significant investments in strengthening our safety culture, aligning leadership, and ensuring safety expectations are clearly understood before work begins, not after an incident occurs.
A Leadership-Driven Safety Culture
Safety at Sunseri is led from the top. Our management team, including Ownership/Operations, Risk Management, Business Development, and Safety. We meet weekly to review trends, lessons learned, upcoming work, and opportunities for improvement. This team-based approach ensures safety decisions are timely, consistent, and fully supported across the organization.
Comprehensive, Up-to-Date Safety Programs
We partner with Forensic Analytical Consultation Services (FACS), a third-party safety provider, to keep our Written Safety Programs current, compliant, and practical. Our programs go well beyond the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and include, for example:
Specialty Contractor Safety
Hazard Communication
Fire Extinguisher Program
Emergency Action & Evacuation
First Aid / CPR Training
Fall Protection & PPE Standards
Wildfire Smoke Prevention
Heat Illness Prevention
Multi-Employer Worksite Policy
Traffic & Vehicle Safety
These programs are reinforced through ongoing training to ensure expectations reach the field — not just the binder.
Active Jobsite Oversight & Hazard Identification
Safety at Sunseri is supported through multiple layers of oversight:
Daily jobsite supervision
Use of Autodesk Build to create, track, and remediate identified Safety Hazards and Near Misses.
Monthly/Bi-monthly safety visits by our internal safety team
Weekly Safety Coordination Meetings of Onsite Project Management Team and Subcontractor Foremen.
Third-party Hazard Inspections also provided by FACS
Quarterly site visits by our insurance loss control representative, focused on safety culture and continuous improvement
This layered approach allows us to identify risks early and correct them before they become incidents.
Subcontractor Alignment Starts Before Construction
We believe strong safety performance begins before the first worker arrives on site. During the bidding and preconstruction process, we evaluate subcontractors based on:
Insurance loss history
CAL-OSHA citation history
Training programs and safety leadership
Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) to demonstrate processes exist to safely perform their respective work tasks.
Prior to starting work, we meet with subcontractors to align expectations around Job Hazardous Analysis (JHAs) PPE requirements, fall protection, emergency response, and first aid/CPR coverage. We ensuring these expectations are communicated clearly to crews before work begins.
Work with CAL/OSHA
Sunseri Construction works proactively with CAL/OSHA Enforcement and Consultation Services to clarify expectations, reduce uncertainty, and improve jobsite safety before issues arise. This collaborative approach supports safer projects, stronger compliance, and fewer disruptions for owners, subcontractors, and workers alike.
Proactive Safety = Better Outcomes
Our goal is simple: fewer injuries, fewer disruptions, stronger partnerships, and better projects. By investing our energy proactively rather than reactively, we create safer jobsites, protect project schedules, and support the long-term success of our clients, subcontractors, and employees.
